The Shanghai Cartoonist’s National Salvation Propaganda Team was a team of eight peopl comprising of leader, Ye Qianyu, members, Zhang Leping, Hu Kao, Tewei etc., left Shanghai for the interior and the front, They had the support of the people and part of their funds for traveling were collected by children under the hot sun.

The magazine “Salvation Cartoons”, was the official publication of the “Shanghai Cartoon Sector Salvation Society”, published a total of twelve issues in Wuhan (three more issues came out in Chongqing, making fifteen issues in all).
September 26 1937 The Shanghai Children's National Salvation Association
In Huang Yao’s article, ‘Niu Bizi Cartoon’, published in 1983, he wrote, ‘that within two weeks of asking for cartoon submissions from children, he received more than 40,000 pieces of drawings’. The content of the paintings were anti war and appreciation of soldiers. With the overwhelming response, the cartoons were exhibited on the 26 September 1937.

Huang Yao wrote, “I had to leave Shanghai in a hurry and secretly. It was because of my involvement with the Children’s Save the Country Society, that the Japanese were now looking for me.”
October 28 1937 Yang Huimin
Yang Huimin (1915-1992),Yang was a Girl Guide during the 1937 battle of Shanghai who supplied a Republic of China flag and brought supplies to besieged defenders of the Sihang Warehouse. Her actions proved inspiring to the defenders, who flew the flag the next day break in front of thousands of watching eyes across the bank of the Suzhou Creek.

1938 Minjian Chubanshe
Huang Yao establishes his publishing company, Minjian Chubanshe. He published at least 15 books and 4 known woodblock prints from this Publishing Company. A good description of Minjian Chubanshe was written by Chen Yibo in his article, 'Niu Bizi in Wartime' 1942 in the Central Newspaper, Guiyang.
1938 to 1942 The Beijing Chronicle
From a Chinese Government website source, from1938 to 1942, The Beijing Chronicle (in English) published Niu Bizi cartoons everyday in a prominent position in the newspaper, with a special column titled, ‘Niu Bizi Says’.

Huang Yao spent 6 months researching material for ‘The 72 Aggressions of the Japanese’. This book was published in April of 1938, there are 5 booklets. In a timeline from 1891 to 1937, it documents 72 aggressive moves by the Japanese towards the Chinese. All books have English and Chinese explanations and published by Huang Yao’s own publishing company in Chongqing, ‘Minjian Chubanshe’ (The People’s Publisher).
